EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Carl Wilkerson

Carl Wilkerson

Carl Wilkerson has been an esteemed member of the Bush Rudnicki Shelton team since 1996, specializing in construction-related litigation, insurance law and appellate matters.

Carl earned his B.A. in Communications from the University of Oklahoma with a plan to pursue a career in political consulting. While completing his undergraduate degree, he became highly interested in law, yet went on to join a St. Louis construction company after graduation—his initial opportunity to have first-hand experience with shop fabrication, job site installation and management in the construction industry.

After marrying a Baylor Law School graduate, Denise, he relocated to Texas in 1987 and was quickly acquainted with several local lawyers and Baylor Law professors. It was their persistent influence and encouragement that led Carl to pursue his desire in law. He graduated from Baylor Law School in 1989.

Carl’s journey to Bush Rudnicki Shelton began with the historic Galveston law firm of Mills, Shirley, Eckel & Bassett—the oldest law firm in Texas—where he learned to defend design professionals and contractors against claims arising from construction projects. Because of his close network of colleagues and industry professionals, Carl was quickly linked to founder, Bob Bush.

For Carl, his professional fulfillment derives from learning about the projects of his clients and fostering relationships with them. He respects and greatly appreciates their livelihood and often refers to them as [literally] “building something of value.” Furthermore, he has had the privilege of observing the changes over the years to the firm, particularly the introduction and fusion of technologically in law practice. The firm has progressively adopted innovative technology, using the benefits to maximize results for clients. Proudly, Carl is also quick to point out the company’s efforts to convert to a “paperless” office and hopes his own office will reflect that someday!

As a seasoned team member, his best experience at Bush Rudnicki Shelton was the culmination of cases and events that led to him defending two determined clients all the way to the Texas Supreme Court; eventually he led to two important insurance cases in favor of homebuilders: Lamar Homes, Inc. v. Mid-Continent Casualty Co.; and Don’s Building Supply, Inc. v. OneBeacon Insurance Co.

Carl is an active member of Arlington Bar Association, and particularly relishes their annual Fish Fry for Tarrant County Judges. Other involvement includes his participation in the Arlington Legal Clinic and Arlington High School “Band Dad” club. One of his favorite community settings is the Arlington Levitt Pavilion, where you may see him “singing and dancing at the front of the stage” during outdoor concerts. He never misses the OU-TX football game at the State Fair—his favorite game during football season. However, his real passion and perhaps “hidden talent “ is cooking! Whether tending a grill, smoker or fryer for a tailgate or preparing a family holiday dinner—the apron and hot pads are close by.

Above all else, when asked what Bush Rudnicki Shelton employees and clients may not know about him, Carl replied, as his testimony of devout faith and dedication, “I love my Lord, Jesus Christ, my family and my country.”
